The Types and Uses of Candle Wax

Candle wax has different types. There are cheap waxes that are made into candles and there are costly waxes that are also made into candles with slower melting rate.

There are different waxes used in candles. Some of these waxes have other uses. Listed below are the different types of waxes that are also commonly used in candle making.

Types candle wax

• Paraffin Wax:

A wax made of paraffin is a chemical preservative that is used commonly on fruits, vegetables, and candy. This is in order to create a shiny appearance, delay the moisture loss, and spoilage. Chocolate candy makers frequently use paraffin wax also. In fact, Paraffin wax is also regarded as the “baker’s wax or canning wax”.

A paraffin wax is flammable so make sure you do not overheat it. Just heat it gently on a double boiler or you can use a microwave and heat it simply up to the point where in the wax had dissolved. Paraffin wax is a white odorless, tasteless, waxy, solid component. Its usual melting point is around 48 to 65 degrees. When heated, the chemical composition of paraffin wax, especially the so-called chemical re-agents, remain unchanged but they readily burn.

Pure paraffin wax is a tremendous electrical insulator and has an electrical resistibility for about 50 to 100 degrees of temperature. A pure paraffin wax is not often utilized in order to create an original statute model or for casting metal.

• Paraffin or Mineral Oil

Liquid paraffin waxes are also known as mineral oil. This form of paraffin wax is a combination of heavier alkaline and has an amount of terms featured as nojul, alboline, adepsine oil, glymbol, saxol, and medical paraffin or USP mineral oil.

This type of wax has a thickness of around 0.8g/cm. This liquid paraffin is utilized in order to help the bowel movement of persons suffering from chronic constipation. In mechanical integration and baking, mineral oil must be applied in order to make sure that the loaves of bread, or whatsoever, are simply out when cooked. Mineral oils can be used for coating fruits as well.

• Soy wax

The Soy wax was discovered during the late period of the 19th century. It was when Michael Richards looked to find a cheaper alternative for beeswax. Therefore, Michael Richards discovered and developed the soy wax.

The beeswax products, as he understands, have an increasing demand for a natural wax candle. Michael Richards has tested dissimilar normal plant waxes and finally finished up with a vegetable and fruit wax, which was created with parts from hydrogenated mineral oil, cooking oil, palm oil and the combination of beeswax, and soy wax. The result was the creation of a cheap normal wax candle.

In late 1996, Michael Richard’s succeeded in changing the costly beeswax with palm and soy wax. The candle wax is mostly composed of hydrogenated mineral oil. Michael Richards also tested several combinations of soy wax for bottle candles and free position candles, which required a higher hot point.

• Bees Wax

Beeswax is a natural wax that was created in the beehive of the genus. Beeswax is created by young little worker bees for around 15 up to 20 days. This is in order to form the scales buried by glands. The worker bees have a somewhat protector gear on their bodies.

Worker bees have eight wax-producing mirror glands on their inner sides. The beeswax is almost white in color but sometimes it can possess the color blue or color green by incorporation of pollen oils. The beeswax scale is around 3 mm diagonally and 0.4 mm wide. Aside from this, around 1300 is required to create a honeycomb.

• Palm Wax

Palm wax is made from pure natural palm oil based on raw materials. The palm wax is unlike other waxes since they form crystal-like substances on the outer side of the candle. Palm wax burns at a much cooler and slower rate than several waxes.

Candle waxes such as palm wax is biodegradable and water-soluble. Palm wax candles have approximately 45 percent longer burn time as compared to the usual sized paraffin wax candle. The palm wax candle also releases the scent throughout the entire candle. The scent of a palm wax candle does not fade away like other candles. The palm wax has a higher yield and it is tougher than other oil seed crops. No fertilizers or chemical treatments are required for its cultivation. Palm wax is a unique crystalline figure.

Candles have been around for a long time, which means that candle holder have too. Oil lamps were the first form of artificial lighting discovered by man. The light given off by a cloth wick in a pool of oil allowed ancient man to function even after the sun went down. Although oil lamps continued to be in use till the advent of electricity, the discovery that solidified animal fat would provide and equally good sources of fuel to a burning wick caused the candle to come into being and its popularity soon equaled and often overtook that of the oil lamp.

Since candles are, because of their shape, intrinsically unstable, candle holders were required. The earliest known ones were just flat pieces of metal with a point or pin on the surface to which a candle could be firmly fixed. Once this purpose was achieved, metal workers looked towards enhancing their visual appeal and making them items of beauty. Thus was born the metal art candle holder.

Although nearly all modern indoor lighting is done by electricity, candle and metal art candle holders remain popular. There is nothing like soft candle light to add romance and atmosphere to a room. And if the candle is fitted to a metal art candle holder, the appeal is greatly enhanced. An enduring image is of the romantic dinner for two with a gleaming candelabra in the middle of the table. The candelabra is a metal art candle holder! Besides the effect of candle light, a surprising number of people still prefer to use candles indoors as they feel that candle light adds energy to a home.

Candles

One cost efficient and elegant centrepiece option is candles. While providing warm lighting to enhance the ambiance of your reception, candles double as both a lighting and decorative element. Your garden is your own little oasis. Your retreat from the rest of the world. Naturally, you'll want to add your own touches to your garden, to set it apart from everyone else's. You'll want to add your own accents to make your garden truly your own. Here are 7 ideas for little touches that you can add to your garden, to make it your own personal space.

1. Wind-Chimes - You can find wind chimes in many styles and materials. You can find copper and metal chimes, clay and ceramic. They may feature random shapes of metal or ceramic, or they may be tubes, tuned to certain pitches. So, chances are, you'll be able to find a set of wind chimes that suit your style and your budget. If not, you can easily create your own. Just look around at some of the wind chimes that are available, to give yourself an idea on how they are made.

When you place your wind chimes, look for a place with a slight breeze. Outside, you shouldn't have much trouble finding such a place. Hang the chimes so they'll blow gently in the breeze, creating a relaxing chime. Just don't put them in too strong a breeze, or the relaxing chiming sound will become a harsh, clanging noise.

2. Lighting - Several lighting options are available for your garden or patio. You can use candles for a soft, flickering light, or a string of electric lanterns for a more steady light. If you don't have an outlet available, you can find solar lights, which soak up sunlight during the day, storing the electricity, and then come on at night when the sun goes down. You may want to include a citronella candle or torch in your lighting to keep mosquitoes away.

3. Garden Furniture - These days, you can find a wide selection of outdoor furniture for your garden. I'm not talking about those uncomfortable, aluminum framed, nylon webbed, camping chairs, that trap you as soon as you sit down. You can find comfortable, cushioned chairs and couches, suitable for outdoor use. A hammock strung between a pair of trees can provide a relaxing place to take a bit of a nap on those hot summer afternoons. Several styles of benches are also available to accent the garden, and provide a place to sit and rest under the lilac bushes.

4. Fake Flowers - If you have a spot in your garden where you just can't seem to grow anything, a container of silk flowers can certainly brighten up the area. You may also put in some small planters on the wall or fence, with trouble-free fake flowers.

5. Containers - You can plant flowers in a container, or vegetables and herbs, or you can build a small water garden to show off water lilies and other aquatic plants. A well placed container garden will add a touch of color and texture to a bare corner of your garden or patio. You can re-plant the containers every season to provide some continual color to your garden, year round, and if you don't like the placement of the container, you can simply move it to a more suitable location.

6. Water Features - A water feature can range from a simple container with some water and a few plants up to a large pond, with fish, waterlilies, bridges, and fountains. It all depends on how much time and money you want to spend in creating it, and how much space you have available. Even a small container with a fountain can add the soothing sound of water to your garden, without taking over a lot of space.

7. Rock Gardens - Rock gardens, like container gardens, can provide color throughout the year, if you plan it well. When plants from one season are done blooming, you can remove them, and replace them with others. A rock garden will take a bit of work to build, especially moving the rocks. Make sure that all parts of the garden are accessible for weeding and watering. Try out different rocks and plants until you find a combination that you like.

These are just some ideas for accenting your garden, and making it your own personal space. Sprucing up your garden doesn't have to take a lot of time, or cost a lot of money. You can build a water feature or rock garden, or you can simply add a few inexpensive decor pieces throughout your garden. Either way, you need to make an effort to set your garden apart from everyone else's. You need to take action to make your garden your own.

It is that time of year again where we friends and family over for barbeques or meals on the patio. What would set the mood for these types occasion is, after it dark, to have candles strategically set around for everyone’s enjoyment. Spring and summer are a great time to take your soy candles outside. There are a variety of uses from creating a welcoming atmosphere to using candles to keep pests away.

Creatively placing candles in an outdoor space can make any garden room inviting and relaxing. It is recommended that you use either unscented candles or an insect repellent variety depending on your needs. Any candle can be used outdoors and some are specifically made for that purpose.

Candles also can play a functional role on a patio or other outdoor entertaining area. Citronella scented candles will help repel gnats and other small insects around eating areas. April 22, 2010 is officially Earth Day in the United States. Today is a great time to reflect on current practices and to identify areas where we can improve to conserve our natural resources. So take a few minutes today to reflect on what you can do to help renew, reuse and recycle our limited resources to create a clean environment for the future.

HeavenScent Soy Candles has a program where we encourage local clients to reuse their candle jars through a refill program. Our jars can also be reused for a variety of purposes such as holding fresh cut flowers, or storing small craft items. As a business, we reuse common items everyday to help reduce costs as well as to help recycle materials. For instance, we now use old newspapers as a packaging material. The newspaper functions as well as new paper materials for filling boxes, additionally, it can be ultimately recycled by the consumer.

Decorating Your Outdoor Room(On The Cheap!)

Outdoor rooms are extremely popular these days, and not just amongst the rich and famous! You can squeeze an outdoor room in almost any space, and decorate it to match the style and mood of your home, inexpensively!

Any room needs furniture, and an outdoor room is no exception. However, much of the patio furniture on the market today is quite expensive. You can make inexpensive resin chairs work for you, however. There are new varieties with a texture to them that looks more like wood than their slick plastic counterparts did. Look for these! Also, the white Adirondack resin chairs sell at my local discount stores from $11 to $15, and look amazingly like the real painted wood chairs, especially from a distance. Dress up your new chairs with some cushions, and they will fit right in to any décor! You can also now spray paint those chairs with a new paint from Krylon called Fusion. Pick it up for about $4 and customize cheap plastic chairs. (Hint: Look at garage sales for used ones you can repaint!)

Once you have your furniture in place, time to think privacy. Hopefully, you are protected on at least one side by a wall, fence, or building. A great way to offer yourself some more private moments is to use a trellis as an extra wall, and plant fast growing vines at its base. You can anchor the trellis in a planter to make a moveable wall. Morning glories, scarlet runner beans, and moonflower will all cover your new “wall” in no time!

If your outdoor room is protected in part from the weather, fabric curtains can be used outdoors as well. I suggest using cheap flat sheets and either a staple gun or a grommet kit. Cheap muslin can work as well, and is so inexpensive it can just be replaced the next year! This is a great technique for the end of a porch or deck, and can help control the sun as well. Be sure to use tiebacks for those times you want to let the breezes blow through.

Lighting is so often overlooked in outdoor rooms because of its expensive nature, but this doesn’t have to be the case. Candles and torches are wonderful for outdoor meals, and solar lights can be used for safety, without the expense of electrical installation. Strings of clear holiday lights are magical wrapped around a tree, or over a porch beam. Luminerias can be created with recycled cans and a punch tool, then drop a candle inside.

Finally, don’t forget accessories to add charm and style to your outdoor rooms! Pick up some unfinished bird houses at the craft store, and decorate them with paint, then hang in a group on the garden fence or wall. Use scrap lumber to paint signs for your garden room with inspirational sayings, or words. Use your hand tools as décor items and hang them on the fence or wall. Lean an old picket fence against the porch wall,( or a new one, you can get a premade picket fence piece for around $8 at the home improvement center!) then place planters of flowers in front of it. Add cut flowers in pretty pitchers and bowls from the kitchen, pick up candles at the dollar shop, and lay out a fabric napkin or two as an impromptu tablecloth.

Any way you do it, an outdoor room is worth having in any home, and with a little creative thinking can be decorated with style, comfort, and the spirit of the seasons which coax us out of doors.

Do you dream of walking through endless meadows of fresh flowers or wading through meandering rivers and bubbling brooks? Does the warmth and cosiness of country living appeal to your senses? Country style rooms are warm-hearted but not prosaic; trendy but not fashion-obsessed.

Acquiring the Country Look
Rustic simplicity that is modest, unassuming and friendly forms the core of country home decor. Though flexible enough to include natural materials of all kinds, hand made period pieces, well-worn antiques as well as reproductions, country style furnishings will rarely include designs that are delicate or furniture that is formal. Look for rustic, sturdy and durable country furniture that is hand crafted; country furniture is rarely machine made.

There are several types of country decor styles, from American Rustic and European Country to Vintage or Modern Country. While sticking with one style of country decor for your entire house is a safe, simple and time saving option, the very coordinated sameness that you tried so hard to achieve can look monotonous and humdrum after a while. Mix and match complementary country-styled furnishing and give every room a refreshing yet eclectic look.

Here are a few vital elements of country style décor. Mix and match the different elements in different rooms to acquire a country look that is time-honored and yet unique at the same time.

Wooden Surfaces
Wood is the key material in rustic country style décor. For an authentic country look and feel, the style should be plain and simple, the wood unpolished, with the wood grain visible and chips and scratches completing the natural look. Cabinets, beds and tables are hand carved in oak, walnut, cherry, hickory, pine and other exotic woods. Colorful, terracotta bowls, plates, jugs and vases in different glazes add country color to any room.

Country Lighting
Nothing breathes country atmosphere into any room more than the warm, gentle light emanating from a live flame. No dimmer switches and railing lights in your country room. Instead go in for antique candelabras for the dining table and side tables, petroleum or candle-lit wall sconces and real petroleum lamps or chandeliers with real candles handing from the ceilings.

Country Fabric
Natural fabrics including cotton and wool are a simple, cost-efficient, yet wonderfully effective way of enhancing the rustic country atmosphere in any room. Blankets in soft, natural-dye colors; embroidered tablecloths and cushions-covers or an old sampler, framed in wood and hung up on the wall are all suggestive of country living. Avoid synthetic, man-materials of any kind. Quilts in faded, muted, subtle color combinations that hint at long usage infuse the room with an old-world country charm.

Country Accessories
Windsor chairs, Adirondack chairs, dry or fresh wild flowers, quilts, vintage baskets, blue and white ceramics, floral linens and tapestries, wire or wicker baskets, wall clocks, candle holders and wool blankets are all reminiscent of country living.

It might seem wasteful to you to decorate and use all of these cut flowers in order to make a big room beautiful for one night. Are there any environmentally friendly options?

Change the setting
The easiest way to keep from using cut flowers and dried petals is to have your reception and ceremony outside. This sounds like trouble in the making, but it’s a lot easier than it sounds. If you have a large space in someone’s yard or in a park(with everyone’s permission), you can set up a large tent for the reception hall and even the ceremony if you’d like.

Since guests will be under a roof, there is little need for worrying about the weather and they can still see the beauty of the outside as they eat. Find a beautiful setting and light some lanterns around the tent, it creates a soft glow well into the evening.

New ingredients
Of course, if you’re looking for the most earth friendly eating options, you will want to select the buffet option with a limited portion of food. Any additional food can be donated to the local shelter if you’d like.

You will not be using any plastic forks or cups, so you will need a lot of glasses and silverware to make sure that you don’t run out. Napkins can be cloth and washed instead of thrown out.

As decorations, you can spread lavender along the tops of the tables and then include small tea lights as well as larger candles as needed. Find candles that burn clean (as soy ones do), and these are quite friendly to use.

If you’re looking for a centerpiece, you can choose to have tall silver or gold vases in the middle (metal) and fill them with ice and a bottle of champagne for the table. This looks great, plus it serves a function. You can then give away the vases for planters at the end of the night.

Using kegs instead of individual beer cans is a great way to cut back on waste—even if it can be recycled. Recycling tends to be more and more difficult to do as the night goes on.

Let the conversation and the happiness decorate the night, not things that you will only throw away the next day. Being earth friendly isn’t difficult when you think of other ways that you can use things after the wedding is over.

Everyone needs a little happy in their lives. A little something each and every day to remind yourself that you are special and worthy and that life is good.
There’s so many ways that you can do this, that it would be nearly impossible to mention them all. However, here’s a few of my favorites.

Light A Candle
That’s all, just light a candle. Light one when you come in after work, the pleasant aroma will help you relax and give the room a special light. Having candles on the table at dinner time automatically makes the mood more celebratory – it’s peaceful, it’s relaxing, and if you have kids, it makes them excited to get to blow them out! Excited kids can make anyone smile, and that’s worth celebrating.

Have Dessert
You don’t have to go crazy, here. No one needs to be eating birthday cake or an ice cream sundae every night of the week, but ending your day with something sweet is such a great way to make it a special ending. Keep some of your favorite chocolates in the cupboard and have a couple – and if chocolate or sweets aren’t your thing, go for some fruit. Enjoy the taste, texture, color and smell. Really let your senses take over and you’re *poof* in the middle of a celebration!

Turn On the Lights
String some twinkle lights outside and enjoy them after dark. It doesn’t have to be Christmas, just a strand or two of white lights are understated enough yet lend a festive air to the back patio or deck. Sitting out under some tiny lights can lend an atmosphere of magic to your surroundings, and suddenly it’s a party!

Turn Them Off, Instead!
Turn out the lights, for another kind of atmosphere. Light up your outdoor fireplace, grab a glass of wine (or bag of marshmallows depending on your company) and enjoy the beauty of the flames. Share stories of your life (or scary ones for the kids) and celebrate who you are. Invite those around you to do the same and you will find yourself automatically celebrating them!

Play Some Music
While you’re outside enjoying life, bring out a radio or CD player. Put on your favorite tunes and really enjoy them. If you’re in a dancing mood, get up and dance! Whether you’re jumping around to the beat or swaying to the gentle melodies, dancing is an amazing way to celebrate just being alive. It’s one of our oldest forms of self-expression, and one that we should all indulge in.
It doesn’t matter what you do to celebrate life, just that you do it. By doing one or two small things each and every day, you’ll find that you’ve brought more beauty, peace, happiness and celebration to your world and that’s something that’s worth getting excited about. Candle Fire Safety Tips

The first full week in October is fire safety week. In honor of this event, HeavenScent Soy Candles would like to remind everyone to burn candles responsibly and to follow the candle safety tips below.

Never leave a burning candle unattended
Keep candles away from combustible materials such as curtains and bedding material
Keep burning candles out of the reach of children and pets

Some additional tips that will help you use and enjoy candles safely are:

Keep candles away from drafts and vents
Trim wicks to ¼" prior to each use
Normally don’t burn candles more than four hours at a time
Extinguish taper or pillar candles when they get within 2" of their holders
Always use containers that have been made for candle usage
Discontinue use of a container candle when ½" of wax remains
Keep matches, wick trimmings and foreign objects out of the candle wax

A recent study by the South Carolina State University indicated that burning paraffin candles can produce harmful carcinogens while soy candles and other natural candle waxes did not produce these toxins. Though soy candles are a bit more expensive, they burn longer and do not emit the toxic fumes that come from paraffin candles.

Relaxation with Candles

Candles are a great way to relax and unwind. The flicker of the flame and the scent of the candle can help to ease stress and help one to relax. Depending on the type of candle and the materials used, the intensity of the scent and the size of the candle flame will vary. This is due to the temperature at which the candle burns. The lower the temperature, the longer the candle will burn.

A candle that burns at a higher temperature does not necessarily produce a stronger scent. This is due to the fact that the scented oil itself may evaporate or burn away completely during the burning process. A candle that burns at a low even temperature will produce the best scent distribution evenly through a room. Soy Candles specifically, have a low burning temperature and an even scent distribution. Other natural waxes also have some of these same properties.

Another advantage to the soy candle's low burning temperature is that the all natural wax is not as hot as other candle waxes. Some people have used the melted wax as hand lotion once the candle is extinguished and slightly cooled. This is only possible with soy because it is an all natural wax that contains no chemicals.

So sit back, light a candle and relax.

In order to provide better service to our local customers, HeavenScent Soy Candles now offers local delivery within the Harrisburg Metro Area. Delivery is available for orders of all sizes, from gifts delivered to co-workers and friends to wholesale orders to replenish inventory at your shop.

The cost for delivery is $10 for orders under $75, and free for all orders of $75 or more. We also offer local pick-up at either our Camp Hill, or New Bloomfield locations.

HeavenScent Soy Candles was created in 2005 by Jeff and Lynne Trace. Their goal was to manufacture high quality soy candles using the highest quality materials. The business was a success within the small town where they lived and many of the local people in the community could not wait until the annual events where the candles were sold.

In 2006, Lynne’s daughter Heather and her husband Shaun started to help with the marketing. Shaun was able to create an interactive website that allowed customers to order candles year round. The website developed and slowly more people started to notice the candles and the soy candle industry in general grew. HeavenScent Soy Candles was no exception.

Over the summer of 2008 to present, HeavenScent Soy Candles has seen a dramatic increase in the number of candles sold through our online web store. Customers from all parts of the United States and Canada have found ordering candles through our website is easy. There are many options to create a custom soy candle. This customization has been popular and customers can create a variety of combinations, selecting options such as scent and color. Customers can even determine if they would like a wick for burning the candle. If they only plan on using the candle on a warmer, they have the option of buying a candle without a wick.

By listening to the customers and providing unique options for each candle, HeavenScent Soy Candles strives to provide a unique handmade candle for every order. We do not carry many candles in stock and most candles are poured to order. Though this may increase the amount of time it takes the candle to get to shipping, the end result is a high quality handcrafted candle that is uniquely customized for you, our valued customer.
